A Challenge on the Horizon
OK, let’s see what I am capable of.
I was looking around for literary competitions, but I didn’t really find anything interesting. Anything worth my attention.
Then I came across a playwriting competition.
The thing is: I have never written a play before. Never even tried, and I have never learned how to write one either.
Smells like the perfect challenge.
I have two months to make it happen.
So I just ordered a book about playwriting, started reading articles, and began thinking about what I actually want to create.
There are no real constraints, so my mind can fly like a free spirit.
Now I honestly miss having someone in my life to actually talk about things like this.
Someone with creativity, an interest in storytelling, maybe some experience with playwriting or theatre. Because I feel this can go really far.
I will either make something really cool or a total mess.
But I can already see a stage in front of my eyes, the actors walking on it, the scenery.
Holy shit, I already know that coming up with an idea won’t be my biggest challenge. The form and the short amount of time will be.
But hey, two months for 60–100k characters and learning the conventions of playwriting.
Sounds like a plan.
A plan to get out of a burning house.
That is collapsing.
And I am stuck on the 12th floor.
In the elevator.
Why not?
