Do Not Force The Raccoon to Write Letters / Ne kényszerítsd levélírásra a mosómedvét
Why do I have AI write things like generic application emails for me — things other people can throw together in five or ten minutes without breaking a sweat — while I won’t let it touch my novel?
As nonsensical as it might seem, the answer is actually very simple.
When I’m writing my novel, there’s no pressure to meet expectations. I don’t have to take written or unwritten social rules into account. I don’t have to worry about whether I’m writing too much or too little, or whether there will be consequences if I get something wrong. I don’t have to think about whether we’re on first-name terms or not, whether something is too personal, or whatever the hell else.
Yes, I overthink it.
Not for no reason. I’ve had to meet so many unspoken expectations throughout my life that yes, I overthink it. I’ve been rejected so many times because of things like this that it kicks in automatically.
A generic email takes so much cognitive capacity from me that it’s like writing a chapter of a novel. Or more. And I’m stressed about it on top of everything else.
AI takes that problem out of my hands. It writes a generic application email that I can actually send.
After that, responding to the reply is usually much easier, because I have a starting point. The way someone writes, how they respond, what words they use — all of that tells me a lot about their character, and about how much of myself I can show them.
After that, I don’t use AI anymore. I don’t need it. That’s when my brain takes over.
Creating is a completely different story.
That’s where I’m in control. I don’t have to meet anyone’s expectations. I can break the rules if I feel like it.
Of course, there’s still work to do afterwards, because whatever falls out of my head has to be turned into something other people can actually consume. But even then, the question isn’t whether the reader will like it. It’s whether the reader understands what I’m trying to say. Whether it creates the effect I want it to create. And if it doesn’t, what do I need to change to make it happen?
That’s manipulating the space, not trying to conform.
A completely different problem. A completely different kind of cognitive capacity.
And yes, that is my degree. I could technically put “Master of Education” after my name.
And nobody ever put it in the user manual that I’m not allowed to pick up a shovel and dig myself a rabbit hole.
Viselhetném a „Master of Education” címet.
